Geometree

LI: To Draw your own Geometree.

Today for the Summer Learning Journey we did something called a Geometree, which is a type of tree with 3 different shaped triangle's the first triangle is called Equilateral Triangle that type of shape is a triangle that has the equal side's, the second triangle is a Isosceles Triangle this shape has 2 side's that are even and 1 is uneven, the last triangle shape is the Scalene Triangle which is a triangle that has all uneven side's compared to the Equilateral Triangle and the Isosceles Triangle.

My favourite part was when I got to draw all of this and how I drawed a horse without knowing it, the horse is at the top right if you look side ways. I like the way it has that purple and blue patteren on it.

Summer Learning Journey

  

Vector art was the third activity that I have done. To create these images it uses lines, curves, and polygons to create the image. When people create this art is doesn't looks the focus/quality of the image, if people zoom..

In the image above is my Hero my Uncle Pelimanni Fisiiahi he is Tongan. The reason he is my Hero and why I choose him is because he has an amazing back story of how he went from being a boy in Tonga, from getting a scholarship for university to New Zealand, then being the Caption of the Tongan Rugby Team in. One of the other reasons he is my Hero is because he inspires me every time I play a rugby game and to think he is a big part of my family's history I say I am proud to be his nephew.

After drawing my image for my Uncle I went and searched for a quote to go with my story and that quote is "Be gracious with others and be diligent with your efforts in your journey through life" which is a very powerful quote to use on a daily basis.      

My 3 Top Tips:

1 - To do the easy stuff, then go into the detail.

2 - Be creative when doing your art.

3 - Always make sure you make it your own. 

I enjoyed doing this because I got to do it based on a true story of my family. 

 

Where am I?

LI: To use your smart searching skills

This week we, got into groups 3 and chose which place we wanted to do, my group did Lady Liberty. Lady Liberty is located in New York City, Lady Liberty was gift from France as a symbol of friendship, during the American Revoltion. We found some very interesting things we never knew about Lady Liberty, the lady Liberty was built in September was made in 1875. We really enjoyed this activity a lot.

Art Coloring NASA Edition

LI: To draw our own design of a space based thing 

Today was the first day of the Summer Learning Journey and today we had to color in our own version of the drawings that were given to us. My colors (Red, Black, Dark Grey, and Lit Gtey) were a little bit based on Star Wars it really reminds me of Darth Vader plus I like how its shaped and it really looks the part of a Star Wars type theme. I had fun doing this because I loved thinking of mutiple color to make my drawing look like a really cool design for others to look at to.

LI: To Research a New Zealander that has shown exellence and / or creativity in life. 

I researched on an All Black and that All Black is my Uncle thats right Karl Tu'nukuafe the prop himself is my Uncle and he is the best. I love seeing him play on the field and supporting him well he plays I've been to some of his games and it's amazing to be there and watching him play and giving it his all. I did an interview with him talked to him and got some info from him and put it on a DLO to make like someone is asking me question and then I answer them. It was really fun becasue I love doing like these kind of DLO and test myself if I ever get in a interview with someone.  

My personal passion

LI: To show what our personal passion is.

My personal passion is not in just a video game it is also in real life but out of all the fighting games I'd say it would be Mortal Kombat. Because when I was little my uncle gave us a nintendo not the nintendo switch no we had the old school nintendo and those times when me and my brother and friends would play this game for hours and hours. In the group I was one of the kings in the Mortal Kombat game. Their were actully 3 kings Me, My Brother and a friend of mine we were the kings because we never lost to the others but by us 3 kings and we'd go on sweating, heart racing, and we'd go on serious. It's like we were playing for a championship and we were the last 3 people left in the game.

The reason why this is my personal passion is because it makes me want to put all those fighting skills in my brain system so that I can protect my siblings from those who go against them in life.

The novels I read this term was the skulduggery pleasant's books they are really fun to read and sometimes I wish I had magic like them and I wish that magic like in the books were real to. From when I got the first got the skulduggery pleasant book it was a really exicting because of the cool adventure skulduggery have have with his partner. 

What I love about being a Pacific Islander

 LI: To tell others what we love about being a Pacific Islander 

What I love about being a Pacific Islander is the food and I love showing others what it mean's to be a Pacific Islander. The thing I liked about this activity is that I got to talk about my Tongan culture and my favourite food Puaka (Pig).

These six photo's represent the fun times I had in camp, home the ocean and Including camp and school I loved doing everything and making new memories in each of these place's. My favourite activity was camp because it was my first time going to camp and it was really fun we got to climbe something called the High Beam but my favourite was the kanuking because it was my first time doing something on the water other then sailing.

Tasty Pacific

One of my favourite parts of being Tongan is the food is amazing and yummy my favourite food is Pig becasue how the skin is so nice and theres so much meat in the Pigs. My uncle and Dad sometimes let me cook the pig it takes 4 hours to do that but it nice when its cooked then we all eat the pig. And have heaps of other food like lu and Otai.

The group of people I like working with is my rugby team becasue we get to play and evole from our mistakes in rugby. And we get to have the feeling of when we tackle our oppents we love it when we run with the ball and break the lines of defence. My favourite part about this DLO is that I got share my interest in rugby with others.

Me and my group wrote what we think it means to be a child of this Ocean. I feel like being a child of this Ocean is very important to us pacific people. What I enjoyed about doing this DLO isn that I could share my feelings with other people. 

Fortnite Coordinates

 LI: To wriute the coordinates on the map.

For this task I showed the coordinates of a old Fortnite map I don't when this map was created. The thing I found interesting is that this is how the army tells others where they are or where to go. Lots of people play Fortnite, I think Loot Lake is still on the Fortnite map mybe I don't know. Fortnite is really cool Epic games add new things every time they add a new season I started playing in season 7.

LockDown Memories 2021

 LI: To tell a story through images that reflects our experiences in the current Covid Alert Level 3 and 4 Lockdown that we can display in our class in Term 4.

This years lockdown has been really hard and doing online learning is also very hard because you run out of things to write and things to put on you your blogs but my parents know how to keep my learning moving so that I have lots of blogs for others to read.

Animation Challenge

 LI: To create an animation

This is a DLO of showing how to make a short animation film on a google presentation. It shows that to make your peraon move it has to be small steps at a time. And if you want to move the arms you have to do the same as the steps.

What I liked about this activity is that I learnt how to make my own animation. 

An important object in my life

The object that is important in my life is the traditional Maori necklace it was given to me when I turn 11 years old and it was from a speical friend of mine. And ever since i've never taken it off becasue it is like a good luck charm and I feel like it's important that we keep those close to us if its in person or not. And this is why this object is important to me.

This DLO shows information about very well known people from America to Tongan some you might know or some you might not, we had to find information and tell them in our own words.

The thing I found fun about this activity is that I could learn new things about these famous people.

Food Tech

Li: To make a recipe for others

 

This week for Food Tech me and my brother made DLO on how to make mash potatoes and mince. We watched our mum make it and thats how we know she's really good at cooking and our dad is really good at making the mash potatoes. When they make the food and give it to us it taste really really yum we had it for dinner last night but it was our dad who made the food becuase our mum was busy doing some work.  

Character Excitment Chart

Our task was to create an excitement chart to plot the level of action and character’s emotions over time in our manga stories.

It was interesting because I got to write about my Character and I got to write my Characters Excitement on chart called Character Excitement.

Our challenge today was to turn the events in our 6 sentence stories into a manga comic strip. I enjoyed because this because I got to write about my favourite person in Anime.

This activity was fun because I got to make my own story about Kageyama

6 Sentence Story

 LI: Use 6 sentences to set up the structure of a narrative

To help us put our learning this week together we were asked to write a 6 sentence story. This story will be used as the text in our manga comic DLO. 

List Poem

 LI: To write a list poem that describes a topic by painting a picture with your words.

Today we wrote list poems about an anime character. Our challenge was to use descriptive language features to paint a clear picture with our words

I enjoyed writing this poem because I got to pretened to act like my charater in a poem.

Cinquain Poem

 LI: To write a cinquain poem to describe an anime character

This week we have been exploring the world of anime and manga. Our challenge today was to write a cinquain poem to help us strengthen our connections to description that describes our favourite anime/manga character. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun. 

Katsudo Shashin Animation

LI: to create an animation

One of the oldest surviving pieces of Japanese animation may be a nameless, dateless, approximately 3-second film known as “Katsudo Shashin“ (literally “Action Photo“). It simply features a boy writing the words 活動写真 katsudo shashin and then doffing his cap.

Our challenge

today was to use our animation skills to create our own 3 second ‘action photo’ using our own manga character.

I enjoyed this because I got to learn somethings new well doing this.

Manga Artist

Our challenge today was to use our smart searching skills to create a DLO in our own words that tells us about the life of our favourite manga artist or a well known manga artist. A fact I found interesting is that he made Haikyuu because it just suprised me that someone that had played volleyball made a volleyball series. 

The History of Manga

LI: To read for meaning and understanding

Our challenge today was to complete a reading comprehension about the history of Manga to show that we are reading for meaning and understanding. Our final challenge in this activity was to create a DLO to share the information we found out. A fact I found interesting is how different the Japanese comics are to US comics because I thought all comics were the same.

Maths

LI: To define the terms and understand the properties of 2D shapes.

                

Our challenge today was to answer some questions about geometry some of the questions were about line segments and vertexs and vertices it was really fun to do geometry. Because I got to evolve my learning on geometry and find out new ways to get the answer to the questions.

Skulduggery Pleasant

 LI: To show my favourite books on a DLO. 

I started to read these books when I was 11 years old they have really cool stroies about magic, monsters and lots more the Author who made these books is Derek Landy he is Irish and started his first book in 2007 this is when Skulduggery Pleasant meet Stephine. Skulduggery Pleasant is not his real name it is the name he took to protect his real name, just like Skulduggery Pleasant Stephine Changed her name to Valkyrie Cain and then together they saved the world. In all of the books they have new enemies to defeat and even new friends to meet.      

How proud I am about my cultures

This DLO shows all my cultures and how proud I am about my cultures the amazing thing I love about all my cultures is that I get to explore facts and other stuff about them like food and discovers my culture made. They all have unique things about well to me they do they reflect things about me and the way I am towards others.

Customised Shoes

 LI:To show our passion by designing shoes.

These shoes represent my favourite basketball player which is Michael Jordan and my favourite culture is Tongan. One day I'm going to be like Michael Jordan and make my own shoes and I'm going to call them Air Tahaafes which represents my last name and then I'm going to make more and more different kind of shoes and be sponsored by Nike, All Stars and Adidas which are my 3 FAVOURITE SHOE BRANDS.

The hardess chllenge for me was that I had to think of what I was going to make my shoe look like. I think its great what Rangi-Haira Jaxon Greening is doing for himself and for his family its so cool to see that he can do all of this and provide for himself and his family.

Recreating Famous Artworks

LI: To use your knowledge of colour and colour mixing to replicate the colours used in the artworks.

This week we have been learning about famous artworks and colour mixing. The artwork I chose was "The Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh This artwork was painted in July 1889 It was painted because Theo intended to promote his elder brother's work after Vincent's death Today it can be found in MoMA in New York City I enjoyed this challenge because I got to recreate the famous painting "The Starry Night"

Our challenge today was to find the definitions of a 2D shape then draw the shape. I chose to draw my own/use the shapes tool because I think its a fun thing to do I found this maths interesting because I got search for other maths shape.

This morning Miss Sheena joined our online Meet and taught us how to write a Hello/Goodbye poem. This poem shows the contrast between things lockdown made us leave behind and the things lockdown gives us the opportunity to do.

My Sporting Hero

LI: To show who my sporting hero is.

This DLO is about my sporting hero Michael Jordan he is a really great inspiration to me when I play basketball. He is the person that introduced me in to the NBA in the first place, ever since I saw him play in the NBA I felt like thats what I'm going to do and thats what my dream is going to be. My mind is set on getting better and better with my shooting and with my dribbiling so I can be the best NBA SuperStar the world has ever seen.

What is a million?

What is a million? A million is the past and future success I have made in life A million is the bonds I have created with others  The things I have done to get where I am today The self esteem I have in myself to get better and better each day                  It is the memories I make with family from when the sun rises to when the moon comes    It is the limits I surpass in my trials of life                   A million is not only a word but a accomplishment that everyone can find

Today I wrote a list poem about what is a million? It is a really cool activity to do bacause it makes you think about things in life and is a good opportunity to express your self with such powerful words that can blow yours and other peoples minds. My favourite part about this activity was I got to paint a picture of what I'm saying. 

  

Proud of my roots.

 LI: To design a T-Shirt that shows I'm proud of my roots.

Today I designed a T-Shirt that shows I'm proud of my roots the reasons why I choose these pictures are because they all show my cultures. I choose these flags because they all represent my cultures the flags I put on there are the Tongan flag, New Zealand flag, Australian flag and the british flag. The patterens I choose are all about my culture in two of the patterns you can see the Tongan flag and the Kangaroos from Australia. The two people are my uncles one is an All Blacks Player and the other one is one ads. 

Pixelart

 LI: To create an animated gif file.

We used pixelart to create a self portrait. The  challenge was to create an animated gif file to make our pictures blink or smile.

I found out how to make a gif on Pixelart.

I enjoyed this because I got to learn how tomake my own gif.

How to survive a cow attack.

LI: To evaluate

This week we are using our skills of inferring and reorganising information in a text to make evaluation about facts and events that is not stated. Our follow up challenge was to read an article that told us how to survive a cow attack. We then used the infomrationfrom both texts to create a DLO that tells others how to survive a cow attack. 

I found out that cows are peaceful animals when left alone.

I enjoyed doing this because I got to find out how to survive a cow attack.

Eyes on the prize

 LI: Create something that shares your sports interests and talents.

For this activity I put in whats my favourite sport? and How does my Pacific heritage help me play my sport? If you read what I wrote it has my cultures and why I Love being a Pacific Islander. I really love being able to do the challenges by myself and with others at school, the challenges are really fun because I got to expand my editing skills and I can show people who I am.

 

Lazy Sneakers

LI: To show others my learning by designing shoes

I did this activety because I got to show my favoreite BasketBall Players from the 90s and from today by desining shoes. For those who might not know who these people are, the top 2 shoes represents former 1980s BasketBall Players they both played for the Chicago Bulls and won Six NBA 

championships altogether, their coach was Phil Jackson he was there every NBA championships they won. The bottom represents shoes the best  BasketBall Players of this year on the left there is Giannis Antetokounmpo he plays for the Milwaukee Bucks and his coach is Mike Budenholzer and the Milwaukee Bucks have won 2 NBA championships. And on the right shoe represents Lebron James he plays for the Los Angeles Lakers and is one of the most best BasketBalls Players the world has ever seen. The Los Angeles Lakers have won 4 NBA championships that is 2 more then the Milwaukee Bucks have won and 2 less then what the Chicago Bulls won. My favoreite part about this activety is that I got to design these shoes by the colors of the BasketBall teams and also by the BasketBall Players.

Hauora

  LI: To draw and label your own hauora diagram.

In order to be able to perform at their best athletes need to have a four walls of the whare tapawha standing. We created this poster to show what each wall represents and why it is important. I found out that if you arn't feeling really happy and one of your walls fall down, that means every other wall will fall aswell unless you pick yourself up and keep pushing yourself to be positive. I enjoyed making this poster because other people can read it and learn how to win without shoving it in other peoples faces.

Swimming

LI: To learn how to swim safety in water. 

For 3 weeks the Y8 & Y7 groups went to the YMCA pools in Panmure to learn how to swim safely in the water. We were split into 2 groups that depends on how confident we are and how unconfident we were in water. To get into the pool safely we put both hands on one side and entered slowly without splashing. We also learnt that if you are stuck out at sea you can use your life jacket to float if your arms are to tired. Another way you can float and keep warm is to curl up into a ball.     

Ancient Olympics

 LI: To skim and scan to find facts about the Ancient Olympics and make notes in my own words.

This week our focus in reading was about the ancient olympics.The ancient olympics started in greek and was inspired to create our mordern olympics nowdays. Using the site prezi we were able to make an intersting presentation about the ancient olympics. We needed to inculed facts, who participated ect. After we completed this presentation we were asked to present our learning to the class. We did this in our inqiury groups.

Hauora

 LI: To understand what hauora is and what it means to athletes past and present

This week for inquiry our focus was about hauora.Hauora is the Maori belief of your physical and mental health and wellbeing. Hauora is like a house, in order for the house to stand you will need all four walls. They are tapa whanau - family, tapa Hingeroa - emotions and mind, tapa wairoa - religious/belief and tapa Tinana - your physical wellbeing. In this DLO we had to talk about what Hauora would look like if you were an athlete competing in the oly

They also know how to lose without having a bad thought on losing to the other Athletes, they can just be happy with what they have and know what they did is good enough. And don't be angry, you just need to be proud of what you have done for your family, your country and yourself.
